Most of the big car insurance companies in mainland UK do not even quote for the Northern Ireland market. This makes it all the more difficult for northern ireland consumers to get a fair deal when it comes to buying car insurance.

Part of the reason for this is that because the roads are so different - in the UK the majority of roads are nice big open dual carriage way roads, whereas here most of our roads are single carriageways - what would be considered 'back roads' in the mainland UK. Another reason is that the numbers are just not here. For some companies, the administrative overheads of trying to sell into the 1.5million odd customers in Northern Ireland is not worth the costs when compared to the 50+ million customers in the mainland.
